Our culture is being significantly changed by modern technology. Every day, there are headlines in the news about recent developments in artificial intelligence and their effects on our lives. There appear to be potential positive benefits, but there also are warnings from experts in the field about harm and even threats to human existence. Biotechnology and synthetic biology offer the abilities to alter our genetic makeup and modify or create biological organisms or organs. Nanotechnology provides the ability to assemble material one atom at a time or rearrange atoms in a molecule allowing complete control of the structure of matter. Our work, health, longevity, physical composition, and identity could all be altered by the effects of these technologies. As Christians, it is imperative that we apply a biblical perspective in engaging with these developments and their effects on humans who are created in the image of God. HSLC will be offering a five-session class during Lent to examine these issues: Technology: A Christian Perspective - Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, and Nanotechnology. The class will be held from 12:00 - 1:15 PM (Feel free to bring your lunch.) in the Church Sanctuary. The schedule is: Wednesday February 25 - The Technological Worldview Wednesday March 4 - Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, and Nanotechnology Wednesday March 11 - Transhumanism and Posthumanism Wednesday March 18 - Christian Philosophical and Biblical Perspectives Wednesday March 25 - Engagement With Technology as a Christian
