Many of us are chasing the American dream in ways that lead to stress, anxiety, and fear—thorns that can rob us of the ability to enjoy the abundant life of purpose that God intended for us. We live in a culture where having “enough” seems to have become a never-ending pursuit for a goal that is always just beyond our grasp.
On Monday, October 22, we
will begin a 4 week long church-wide study and worship emphasis called Living
Abundantly. It is based on a book and DVD called Enough:
Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity. Rev. Adam
Hamilton, the author, is the senior pastor at The United Methodist Church
of the Redeemer in Kansas City. Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come
in order that they may have life and have it abundantly.” In another
translation Jesus says it this way, “I have come that they may have a
rich and satisfying life.” The challenge is that many of us would say
that I’m not living abundantly, I’m not living a rich and satisfying
life. Pastor Hamilton will teach us in this series through the
scriptures that we are focusing our lives on the wrong things as we seek
abundant living and that we will find it as we focus on faith, relationships
and purposeful lives.
